Today, there is news about prospective legislation in the U.S. House with implications for taxes and the economy.
How governments tax and spend is important to the household economy, which explains why it is top-line business news. I caught ten minutes of CNBC at the gym today, but the latest headlines have zero impact on most people. A client and a trainer were working out nearby: “I bought bitcoin at $88,000.” As I write, it is about $110,900. I’m sure these two dudes aren’t thinking about tax implications in the new legislative bill. They are on a gambling high.
Our money and how we spend it are at the top of our minds.

My professional experience has been built on open-concept education and human exchange. I walked among Georgian-style buildings, past resort-style amenities, spectacularly landscaped, and into a classroom. I fire up the AV, use a wireless mouse, then walk and talk. I’ve mostly been a “laptops up” professor because there are problems to solve collaboratively, but the first ten minutes of class can be testy. Well before attention wanes, attention needs to be had.
We’ve all been there.
Jenny, in the fourth row, is focused on her screen, not mine, and she is barely able to control expressing her laughter out loud. Then she pays attention. I walk to the side of the classroom, thinking “I have their attention,” and Harrison in the second row is focused on Stephen A. and ESPN.
“Harrison, why are financial rules of thumb destined to ensure families make poor financial decisions?” Harrison replies, “I’m sorry, I wasn’t paying attention.”
My university is roughly $80,000 per year. My mind goes to his parents and the government.
Do you want to bail out Harrison’s student loan?
By contrast, the front-rowers always give me hope. They are bright-eyed and curious, and from the first week of class, I know they will always be there.
My live classroom method included slide decks, which were necessary to efficiently transfer information. However, the most beneficial teaching and learning results from live, on-the-spot, collaborative Q&A.
We need to do more of that here.
Be a front-rower!

Social Platforms Differ
Social media is unknown territory for me; mostly a one-way street. I author articles that take you to content you likely need or want, but responses on social platforms are rarely immediate. After I put together a longer essay, or short-form note, I have to wait. My feed doesn’t state “Puelz, you have 456 subscribers online.”
AI will be increasingly important. But, it cannot yet manage the intersection of human discussion and technological capability.
My time on Substack is devoted to helping you better understand how to measure your financial future.
How AI describes me on Subtack: “He emphasizes personalized plans that account for income, taxes, consumption, savings, and longevity, using mathematical models and software to create internally consistent, dynamic spending and saving recommendations tailored to each household’s lifecycle.”
That is a true statement.

Sir, a professor like you, came daily…put ruler on table…umbrella in corner…..and start, two hours hard prepared lecture, delivered consistently with no breaks. One day he forgot umbrella….stood still in corner. So happened, a student gave his umbrella to place and…..lecture starts. Sir students do pay attention but don’t reflect in peer’s presence. 🙏🙏
