Will louder, more frequent headlines for financial literacy help?

“Does so much of life have to be literally financial?”

The greedy side of us thinks we need to watch CNBC or Fox Business to keep up, while the happy side is fed by Yoga or a three-hour round of golf. Go for happy….but with a twist.

When I joined Substack in 2022, I couldn’t believe people still pay for stock-picking newsletters. What has happened to our education system such that the futility of stock-pickers is so deeply misunderstood?

Embracing life requires some financial know-how, and when the know-how is learned, the payoff is an increase in happy time.

You will never see a stock chart in my posts because they cannot forecast the future, but there are many instances where knowing the financial mechanics of money makes life less stressful. Everybody should be able to

  • Calculate a monthly payment for a car or home loan

  • Calculate how long it will take to save for a special trip or major purchase

  • Determine returns on investments

  • Forecast the amount of their retirement nest egg

I will help with the details.

Classroom work requires practice, and in this lecture, I introduce 5 financial functions in Excel that are about all you need to oil your financial side. Eventually, you will be self-sufficient and I am here to be your steady guide.

The PDF is day 9’s slide deck associated with the Start Here series tab. As usual, I am available for Q&A. Message me.
